Pirelli considering additional EUR 200 million investments in its Slatina tyre factory

The Pirelli Group, owner of the local Pirelli Tyres Romania, announced additional investments of approximately 200 million EUR in the Slatina industrial hub until 2021.

The additional investments are aimed at expanding the factory’s surface from the current 210,000 sqm to 260,000 sqm. The plan also involves developing the motorsport production area, which will include a Formula 1 production unit designed as a back-up for the main Pirelli Formula 1 factory in Turkey.

The new investment plan will create jobs and increase the annual output from 10 to 15 million units, according to the company representatives.

"During its 10-year presence in Romania, Pirelli never stopped growing. This is due not only to the strategic location of the Slatina factory, which is a major logistic and commercial hub for Pirelli in all Eastern Europe, but also to the proven capacity of the country’s institutions to attract and support international investments, Italy being the second trade partner and a top investor in this country", said Marco Tronchetti Provera, Executive Vice-President and CEO of the Pirelli Group.

The tyre factory is one of the most state of the art in the world and manufactures premium tyres such as Winter, UHP Winter, High Performance, Ultra-High-Performance, Runflat and SUV, the Romanian-made tyres being fitted including to cars such as Porsche Cayenne.
